My Top 11 Favorite Forms of Self Care



Self care is incredibly important for everyone’s well being. A self care routine should be included in everyone’s life at least once a month. Focusing on yourself is key to feeling great about yourself. You are important and should be treating yourself as such. It doesn’t have to be everyday (we know we all have other things to do) but it should be a focus in your life. Listen to your body and know when you need some “you” time. Whether you need some time alone, a relaxing night in, or time spent making yourself happy, learn to take that time. Keeping yourself happy and healthy should be a vital part of your everyday life. Here are some of my favorite self care routines:


Bubble Bath

After a long day, enjoying a bubble bath can be one of the best ways to spend your evening. It’s so nice sitting in that hot water with all your stressors washing away. Find all of your favorite candles and light every one of them. Enjoy that warm glow and focus on just relaxing. Pick out a good book to read if you want your thoughts to be focused elsewhere or find a playlist that makes you happy. Don’t forget to stock up on those good bubble bath options so you are always ready when needed. Aromatherapy is my favorite. Now go enjoy your relaxing much needed time away from the world.


Reading

I love a good book. A book is a fun way to escape from reality. The options are endless and great for anyone willing to take the time to just start. Pick any genre that you enjoy and find a quiet place to get lost in your book. For me, reading outside is the perfect place. It’s quiet and peaceful so I can enjoy what’s around me while also enjoying my book. Find that perfect place for you. I’ve always wanted to be one of those people reading in a coffee shop. Maybe that’s you, go find the place that works for you.


Exercise

I always feel great after I get a good workout in. Whether it’s hiking, swimming, or actually going to the gym, any form of exercise is a great way to clear your head and feel amazing about yourself. Completing a workout is an accomplishment that you should feel good about. You were able to get there and follow through so for that alone you should give yourself a round of applause. Every time you workout you should feel invincible like superwoman. And for that, continue to include exercise as a part of your self care routine. You are amazing and should feel like it.


Cook Something for Fun

We all have to eat, let’s make it fun! Cooking can be very therapeutic. I am one that doesn’t exactly love cooking, but it is still on my self care routine. If I get in the mindset of creating something that is going to make it easier for me to NOT have to cook for the week, then that is a win for me. I’m talking about meal prepping, it’s a double win. I don’t have to cook everyday this week and I have all this healthy food that I know I need. I’m also human and get cravings. If I see a fun cookie recipe then I plan for it and make it a fun cooking day. Self care is all based around what YOU need. Figure out what you really need and enjoy your cooking day. And if you have more leftover cookies than you are comfortable with, have a girls night and celebrate your “you” day together!


Plant Something

Getting your hands a little dirty can be very therapeutic. Planting something that you put together yourself can be a great creative outlet while also making yourself feel accomplished about what you’ve created. Whether you plant some herbs that you can use in your cooking or start planting flowers outside your house, gardening can be a great form of self care.


Take a Walk Outside

Fresh air is good for everyone. Take the time to go on a walk outside your home, on a trail, or at any park. Being active is good for your mind and body, while walking also gives you plenty of time to breathe in that fresh air and clear your thoughts. You would be surprised how much you need that time to yourself. It might even become something you enjoy enough to continue every week. Walks are a great way to get away from everything and a fun time to focus on yourself.


Massage

If you have never had a massage, I highly recommend it. Getting a massage is usually one of the most relaxing things you can do (as long as you enjoy that type of relaxation.) I try not to spend money very often on self care but every once in a while I splurge and enjoy a massage. I’ve also asked for gift cards for a massage for Christmas before. I highly recommend this if you would like to indulge in a massage but aren’t able to spend the money for it.


Clean a Room or the Whole House

Decluttering a room or a whole house is refreshing. Get rid of things you’ve never used or no longer need. I’ve gone through my closet twice this year and I’m sure I could do it again. Donate to a local charity to make it even more worth your time. You’re doing a good deed while also getting rid of things that are taking up space in your house. Simpler cleaning can also make you feel good, it doesn’t always have to be a deep dive into your closet. I know for me starting the week out with a clean house helps me feel prepared to take on the week.


Watch a Good Movie

Put on your favorite movie or a new movie you’ve been wanting to see. Movies always put me in a good mood. It’s over an hour where you get to kick back and relax. Before it starts, get some of your favorite snacks, drinks, and anything else you need to make it a relaxing time. Grab your favorite blanket and enjoy your movie. Appreciate that you are able to take the time to enjoy yourself.


Do a Facial

I have received so many facial kits as gifts and always end up looking at them rather than using them. There are so many different varieties for every skin type. So instead of putting off working on your skin care routine, finally put on that facial. I’ve watched tv, finished my work, cooked, and done so many other activities while wearing my facial. This just shows that it shouldn’t have to take any extra time out of your day and you can keep multitasking. Keep pushing through your day while also doing a little good for yourself too.


Go out with Friends

Your friends are some of the most important people in your life. Go have a good time! You deserve that time to vent and enjoy yourself while catching up with your favorite people. Continue to make time for them in your busy life. Having people on your team is what makes it easier to get through the good and bad days. Brunch dates, movie nights, a night out on the town, the options are endless. Find your group of friends and make plans often because we all need those people in our lives and we wouldn’t want to do it without them.
